WR recovers record INR 7.85 cr from ticketless travelers in June

The Western Railway (WR) has recovered INR 7.85 crore from 1.73 lakh cases ofticketless travelling in June.

An official said that "In its endeavor to provide better services to its bonafide rail users and also to check ticketless travel and other such irregularities, WR conducted regular checks during June. The fine of INR 7.85 crore is 31.39 % more than the corresponding period of last year."

During the month, 177 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and an amount of INR 2.14 lakhs was realized. The officials also nabbed 1,283 beggars and unauthorized hawkers. The officials apprehended 170 touts and other anti-social elements and prosecuted and fined them under various sections of Railways Act. Of these, 18 persons were sent to jail.

An official added that during the checks, 175 school children (above 12 years) and others were found travelling in ladies compartment of suburban trains and they were asked to move to the general compartments.
