The fourth annual edition of SME Expo Logistics & Material Handling 2009 is scheduled to be organized at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai (India) from August 19 - 21, 2009 to continue in its endeavor to provide Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in logistics sector a platform for exploring more business opportunities and for dissemination of knowledge in the quest to deliver world class services. This is an industry initiative to share the insights into the challenges and likely trends that the logistics industry is expected to encounter.
Logistics costs in India as a percentage of the national GDP is higher as compared to other developed countries. Any reduction in logistics costs would result in significant savings for the nation. Since the Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) constitute a major segment of the logistics service providers, these SMEs would be the prime movers in this effort. Logistics costs can also be reduced by deploying modern material handling system thereby improving the productivity and reducing the overall cost. The Asia-Pacific market for material handling equipment & systems is projected to record sales of US $25 billion in 2009. As the need for materials handling equipment is directly related to the amount of cargo and freight traffic, India will see a major push in the demand for material handling equipment.
The SME Expo Logistics & Material Handling has become one of India’s largest and most comprehensive exhibitions on Logistics & Supply Chain industry, started in 2006 by ICICI Bank Business Banking and INIS Enterprises with the support & assistance of the global consulting firm Deloitte, the “Knowledge Partner” for the event. Three years in a row, the show has grown exponentially.
